Why came to New York?
I came to New York last November because to help my host family as au pair and start over my life in new place. Before came here, I graduated University in Japan and studied cultural difference and communication through the media. In the end of year in University, I lost the way. I couldn’t find a job and what I wanted to do after graduate. While I was waiting for my graduation, my friend’s mother was introduced me for host mother. She was looking for someone who could be an au pair. I thought good chance to change my life.
Until now...
I was born in Tokyo, 1989. Since 1997 to 2001, I was living to Hong Kong because of my father’s job. During that time, I was going to Japanese school. So, I couldn’t speak Cantonese but this experience made me unhesitating to go overseas and positive to know own culture and other cultures. Also I used to play figure skating and sometimes participated figure skate junior competitions which was took place in east Asia, Philippine, Malaysia, Japan and China. I think those 3 years is highlight and base of my life. After came back to Tokyo, I started to study Japanese traditional culture and to be host family for international exchange student since I was Junior High. Especially, I'm studying the Japanese traditional culture more than 10 years, and holding a license of master. I was curious about the culture then entered the university.
So, please share your culture! I want to know that! Nice to meeting you, every one!

Stereotype of Americans
People make an image of country and people from limited information though the media and the movie. I thought Americans are friendly and rude before came to the U.S.
First, the most of Americans are friendly. I found Americans are greeting friendly when they meet people who met before at once even if they don’t know each other so much. Also, the most of them talk to new people with smile. It’s happen in public space, for example train. They talk with a person seat next to the others enjoyable. Japanese can’t talk and smile in the train like Americans. They just answer the question and keep quite.
Secondly, I thought Americans are rude in time, work and attitude. Actually, Americans don’t give a service not friendly and nicely in the store and restaurant. It seems like they don’t care about customers. On the other hand, they aren’t rude usually, especially in the business. I should say that Americans are flexible. People tell others their opinion and arguing. Therefore, they try to explain the reason why the person can’t do it. Normally it doesn’t accept because they follow the public rule and manner.
Stereotype is one of sores to know the culture. People try to understanding the culture and feel something in the gap between your stereotype and real. In my case, I like Americans more than before arrived here.
