I am originally from Japan. I have lived in New York for 1 year and 3 months. I had worried about living in New York before I came here. Because my friends said to me there is a difference between American food culture and Japanese, so you're hard to find your favorite foods. It a serious problem for me because I love eating. However I have already found some favorite foods in New York. and I have been discovering my favorite foods here, could you please tell me your favorite foods in New York. I'd like to try good taste for my classmates.
American Stereotypes
I heard some American stereotypes when I live in Japan. I’m writing about Americans are friendly. I believed it, they are open-mind, they can make friends easily, they have a lot of parties with their friends every weekend, they enjoy chatting with their neighborhood, so I thought I could make friends here if I had lived here.
After I moved here I realized it’s difficult. I haven’t thought Americans are friendly, because I have some reasons, first nobody says greetings our neighborhood without our apartment stuffs, they never talk to another person.
Second, they are busy. When I went to a supermarket, A casher said “How are you ?” to me, I answered it and asked her, but she didn’t answer. She concentrated her working. I thought that her greeting was automated.
Last, they are worry about the strangers. There are many strangers in here, so I think they protect them against crimes. However it’s just my experience in New York City. I’ve been in here for about 1 year, it isn’t long time, and I understand NYC is a multinational city, it’s not U.S.A.
I probably will change my mind in near future, because Americans show kindness to others who need to help someone. I watch it at subway or bus at least once a week. It’s very good and I love it. Additionally, I’m not friendly now, because I hesitate to speak English, so I’d try to be friendly and try to speak English more. I think good communication needs to concern each other.
