I came to New York because of my husband who is a movie director had won the scholarship from Japanese government to improve his skills in New York for 1 year. When I heard that from my husband, I think it will be also a big chance to me, and my daughter. I have been working as a graphic designer in a design company for 12 years. I had worked very hard in japan at least 13~14 hours a day as well as other colleagues do. I was thinking working like that is not good for my family, my health, and my life but I couldn't get away from that. Now I’m happy because I have more time to spend with my husband and daughter at a same time I’m working in New York with my company in Japan.
However, the price of everything in New York is surprising me. I think it is more than Tokyo! The room, food, toilet paper, tissue paper, utilities cost, everything expensive! Also I surprised at the number of the dogs and there position in society. I have always missed my dog leaving in my parent’s house when I saw them.

The stereotypes of Americans Yuka Tsubota
When people think about “The stereotypes of Americans”, I think we have various opinions. Because America is multiracial country and they have many countries mixed cultures. I introduce three of my opinions of about “The stereotypes of Americans”, that I discovered through my experience since I have lived in NYC.
First, I think of their overconsumption. I always have been surprising at the size of meal at the restaurant, the cup size of coffee shops. For example, the Starbucks in Japan, they have the “short” size cup that is smaller than the “tall” size. Also, I surprised at the news about the city regulation that is going to start controlling selling the large size soda in NYC. I think it’s symbolic news of Americans.
Next, I think Americans are talkative. I saw a lot of Americans were walking while talking by their cellphone and earphone. Moreover, I heard Americans start study at school about how to debate in community from their young age. I think it is mean Americans think about how to convey their thinking is important thing in their life.
The third is Americans generosity. I had train and bus delay or plan changed a lot of times, but I hadn’t seen the Americans who got angry. When I went to popular grocery store, I saw a long line at the casher. Customers made their line slowly but no one seems to have their frustration. In Japan (especially Tokyo), people always seem to like in a hurry. So that Americans behavior seems to me very generous.
Therefore, I think “the stereotypes of Americans” are difficult to focus because of their multiplicity and for such occasions Americans have been needed to talk a lot to understand each other and have been developing their flexibility.
